Resources available

The best generalist resource you can find is Bocconi’s guidance by department, which you can find here https://www.unibocconi.it/en/current-students/student-administration/thesesfinal-papers-guidance; it’s surprising how few people know this exists.

If you dig deep enough, you can also find this guide. It was carbon dated to 2013.

Choosing the topic

What am I studying? | Bocconi Specific

As of June 2024, Università Bocconi offers 9 BSc Courses + 1 BA in Global Law. Generally, each course offers a broad range of courses, but they all tend to specialise in one specific topic/area; this will generally be the same area where you will look for topics for your thesis.

Now don’t get me wrong, I know a number of PoliSci students who ended up writing a thesis focused on economics, just like I know finance students that ended up writing a thesis about marketing. Your degree/major may offer a direction, but always remember that if you have stumbled upon something that interests you more, there is nothing stopping you from following that as your thesis topic.

Keep in mind that literature reviews tend to be more popular for econ-related disciplines – if you study management, there are good chances you’re instead gonna choose a case study as a methodology for your thesis – so for the rest of this guide we’re gonna stick to this econ-centered approach.

In case you want to do a case study thesis, I think this book is gonna be a lifesaver for you; the Bocconi library should have some older editions, they’ll work just fine.
